So much is going on on WikiTree! But this update is something BIG!
Content Ranking!
This little update knocks perfecting your ancestor’s profile out of the park! What is content ranking on WikiTree? From the G2G post from Chris Whitten, “Content Rank is good at replicating how Google determines whether to include a profile in search results when someone is searching for information on a person. This means you can use it to see how to make a profile more visible to cousins and descendants.”
On my EKA (Earliest Known Gaulding |Gaulden|Gauldin Ancestors profile, John Gaulding. If you look down at the profile data block

The CR Score for this profile is shown as “CR:10”.
“If you click on the CR number, it will display the exact component scores that are combined to assign the Content Rank. For example, you may see “Images: 0″ if the profile has no photos or source images. If you were to add a couple, you could add 20 or 30 points and meaningfully boost the profile’s CR — and its likelihood of appearing in Google search results, ChatGPT, etc.”
Chris goes on to say, “Content Rank isn’t a true measure of a profile’s quality. In particular, it cannot measure the completeness of the genealogical research. We developed a plan for Research Complateness …but there wasn’t any community consensus. We are now working on a new proposal.”
WikiTree has been a boon to my research because of its fantastic SEO work to keep my Ancestor profiles at the top of search engine results. I often say that before WikiTree, I had found “some” cousins. Since I joined WikiTree in 2013, the number of cousins I have met has jumped exponentially.
So many great things going on at WikiTree!
